How to travel within Uppsala

Public transport

The closest bus stop to the venue is “Akademiska sjukhuset västra”, but “Blåsenhus” and “Akademiska sjukhuset södra” is also quite close. Which bus stop that is more convenient depends on which hotel you will be staying at, and hence which bus you will take. As long as you are staying in Uppsala you only have to travel within Zone 1.

Please note that the public transport does not accept cash, you need a credit card or you can download an app if you have a smart phone. You can read more about it here: How to buy a bus ticket.länk till annan webbplats, öppnas i nytt fönster

The conference will be at Arkivcentrum, von Kraemers allé 19länk till annan webbplats, öppnas i nytt fönster. Arkivcentrum hosts the Institute for language and folklore, The Seminar for Nordic name research at Uppsala universitylänk till annan webbplats, öppnas i nytt fönster and the Regional State Archive in Uppsalalänk till annan webbplats, öppnas i nytt fönster.

If you arrive by bus you stop at "Blåsenhus" (bus nr 2 and 7), "Akademiska sjukhuset västra" (bus 1 and 11) or "Akademiska sjukhuset södra" (bus 3, 4, 8, 30 and 100) and then walk 100–500 metres.

If you do not want to go by bus, the taxis can take you straight to the entrance at von Kraemers allé 19.

From the Central station, it is a 20–25 minutes walk to the conference venue, partly through the park around the Uppsala castle. Bus stops “Akademiska sjukhuset västra”, “Blåsenhus” and “Akademiska sjukhuset södra” are marked on the map below.

The reception on Monday evening will be held at the Uppsala castle, about a 600 m walk from Arkivcentrum. The conference dinner will be at Norrlands nation in central Uppsala, about 1400 m from Arkivcentrum. See the map below.

There are no organized lunches, but there are several university canteens (Segerstedt, Feiroz) and restaurants (Hotel von Kraemer and Johanna & mat) on von Kraemers allé, close to the conference venue. A one-course canteen lunch costs about 90 SEK, and at the restaurants about 130 SEK.

The weather in Uppsala in June

The temperature can vary between 10 and 20 degrees in early June. If we are lucky, there will be sunshine, but be prepared for rain as well. The sun rises early, so bring eye masks if you have difficulties sleeping in light.
